EchoPilot FLS Platinum Engine – Forward Looking Sonar

The EchoPilot FLS Platinum Engine “Black Box” system enables any chartplotter, multifunction display, or PC with a video input to become a fully functional 2D colour Forward Looking Sonar (FLS), ideal for advanced marine navigation. This cutting-edge forward facing sonar technology delivers enhanced safety and precision for yachts, motorboats, and commercial vessels.

EchoPilot’s patented real-time Forward Looking Sonar - often referred to as forward facing sonar - uses an electronically controlled array to scan the seabed from straight ahead through 90° to straight down, just like an underwater radar. The entire screen updates continuously in real-time sonar mode. If the boat turns toward an obstruction, bank, or shallow water, this is displayed instantly on the screen and disappears when the boat moves toward safer waters. This fast, real-time update sets it apart from traditional phased array sonar systems, which can take considerable time to scan a full 90° sector.

The EchoPilot FLS Platinum forward-looking sonar system allows data to be displayed in multiple locations. By ‘daisy-chaining’ additional EchoPilot Video Interface Boxes, you can run up to two displays at different stations, each with its own keypad, perfect for marine sonar systems requiring multi-station visibility.

Installation of this forward facing sonar system is simple. It uses a single, retractable transducer with a short cable leading to the transmitter box. The proximity of this transmitter box enhances performance and minimizes sonar noise for clear, accurate readings. A standard 12m Ethernet cable sends the display signal to the Video Box with a remote keypad, and the cable length can be extended to 100m if needed. The remote keypad allows full sonar control without interfering with the chartplotter or radar functions of your display. Composite Video and S-Video outputs are included, along with all necessary cables for connection to most marine or domestic video displays.

The FLS Platinum sonar includes a bronze skin fitting as standard. Additional fittings are available for all types of boats and hull materials, including steel and aluminium, making it a versatile solution for any marine sonar installation.
